When most music fans first hear Vampire Weekend they realize that they way they approach their songs is not the typical three chord and a hook style that many top selling bands find themselves in.
The current top 20 alternative rock hit – Cousins, has an upbeat feel that is kind of ska, but then again finds it own style. Most of the beats from the band from Columbia University do not seem to want to follow the normal 4/4 time of many of the top sellers of all time, and you can tell that this does not bother Vampire Weekend one bit.
The bands second album Contra made it #1 on album charts before the first single to be released “Cousins” was close to breaking the Billboard charts.
Vampire Weekend’s style is not for everyone, but like most popular indie bands they have found a loyal following that enjoys what they do. When you vist their MySpace page, you will that they have 150,000 friends, which should let you know that the band will be around for quite awhile.
